2K BURST! - Fastest 2km in February
2km Virtual Race!
Following the 1-mile challenge set last month by one of my running idols, Natz, I just opened a new challenge for my fellow Daily Milers in this LINK good for the whole month of February. All you need to do is sign up at Daily Mile and log in your quickest 2km in either your training or even part of a race where you're joining in this month.
Here's the 1-miler challenge that I was referring to.
I thought 1km might be too short and more than 2km might be too long...for now. :)
Sali na! Wasakan na! :P hehe Good luck! :)

_new_challenge:_1,000km_in_8_months
the last quarter of 2009's turning out to be filled with big challenges for me... :) bring it on! :D
after the 1 1/2 month blc, now i'm testing myself to drastically increase my mileage from the time i started running in may, barely 8 months ago.
i also see this as very timely as there would a race on december 30 called rizal day run being organized by none other than bald runner, one of my idols in running and even the one giving out the 1,000-km shirts in exchange for a small amount to support their cause for runners.
and, i also have a 'pacer' to reach the 1,000-km mark--rod aka rodrunner--who is also looking to hit 1,000km during the rizal day run. :) such an inspiration for me. thanks, rod!
right now, as of this posting, my total mileage since may is 853.65km. here's my daily mile log to prove it:

i need 146.35km in 11 days. :P here's my plan to reach 1,000km by december 30:
december 20 - 21K - celebrity run
december 20 - 7K - recovery (evening)
december 21 - 15K
december 22 - 6K
december 23 - 8K - tempo run
december 24 - 10K
december 25 - rest
december 26 - 16K
december 27 - 16K
december 28 - 16K - w/ 8km speedwork
december 29 - rest
december 30 - 32K - rizal day run
TOTAL = 147km (11 days)
if i complete this, i would've run a total of 301km for december alone! :O oh my...
i feel this would be much more challenging than the blc. only my determination (and luck that i don't get any injusry) would be able to say if i can accomplish this plan. cw-x, do your thing. :P hehe
wish me luck. :)

_with_a_happy_ending
i decided not to place a title that would give too much of a negative impression on yesterday's levi's fun run at bhs. after all, this blog is about happy thoughts. :) i almost forgot.
compared to other races i've joined, this one had the least number of participants, most likely because it was done on the same day as the botak paa-tibayan at UP. my estimate would be no more than 500 runners. given this one, they then decided to give the same gun start for the 1.5/3/5K races.
the happy ending here is that walker's run finished 2nd in the female division in the 1.5K race! woohoo! she got a medal & levi's jeans! also, i finally managed to conquer sub-30 in the 5K race. i timed myself at 29:03...still waiting for the official results. my next goal for now is to do 10K under an hour. a sub-25 for 5K can wait. :P
PROS:
- preferred race for a PR, if you can record your own time
- sponsored drinks at the end of the race
CONS:
- no big-display timer at the start/finish line
- took a looong time for them to award the winners (had time-recording issues)
- limited freebies (i didn't get any)
- no singlet for some runners -> would you believe until now they still haven't provided me a singlet coz they ran out of it? :P
my overall personal rating is 3 out of a 5. the robinson's fit & fun buddy run last july still tops my list.
patiently (?) waiting for the gun start
...and we're off! doc marvin braved the running mob.
near the finish line. "gotta make sub-30!"
small but chirpy takbo.ph / dailymile contingency
and there's the happy ending! :)
-----
all photos c/o doc marvin. thanks a lot for being the 'photovendo' of the day and for waiting just to take a pic of the walker's run when she got her medal! :D
